We explore how spaces can be transformed, experienced and used, from everyday settings to places created for a particular moment.

Verulam Space explores the possibilities of physical space: how it looks, how it feels and what it allows people to do.
Our interests span interiors, architectural concepts, installations and temporary environments. A brief might involve rethinking an existing place, creating a new setting or developing a single element that changes the character of its surroundings.
We begin with the purpose of the space and the people who will use it, then develop ideas through layout, form, materials and light.
What We Design
Temporary spaces & installations
Spaces created for a particular purpose or moment, including exhibitions, pop-ups, events and installations. Exploring how an environment can tell a story, invite interaction or change the way a place is experienced.
Bespoke elements & materials
Individual features that shape the character of a space, including sculptural elements, surfaces, partitions and bespoke pieces. Exploring form, texture and materials as part of the wider design.

How an idea develops
Every project starts with a conversation. We establish what you want to achieve and agree the scope, deliverables and fee before design work begins.
Understand
We discuss the space, what you want to achieve, the people who will use it and the practical constraints.
Explore
We explore possible directions through the drawings, references or material studies appropriate to the agreed brief.
Develop
The selected direction is developed in more detail, with the required outputs and specialist input agreed for the project.
Plan delivery
Where the project moves towards making or construction, we discuss the people, information and coordination needed to take it forward.
From design to delivery
Where a project moves into construction or installation, delivery can be explored with Verulam Contractors and other specialist trades and makers, according to the needs of the brief.
The design scope and any subsequent delivery arrangements are agreed for each project.
